Our Place believes in the power of home cooking to bring people together. Their foundation is their toxin-free ceramic nonstick cookware that comes in a variety of Insta-worthy colors.
From there, the kitchenware brand has crafted a suite of essentials that make cooking together easier than ever.
In this Company Spotlight, we’ll explore the core values of Our Place. We’ll take a look at their commitment to sustainability, their viral cookware – and what’s next for the brand.
Our Place Brand Story
The kitchen has always been a gathering place. But, with busy lives, smaller spaces, and expensive kitchenware, sharing meals together can oftentimes feel more like an overwhelming chore than a joyful experience.
Our Place | name derived from “Come over to our place” – an open invitation, welcome, or extension of community
Our Place products are designed to bring people together. Instead of making cooking more complicated, their products are designed to make cooking easier.
So you can focus on connecting with your friends and family.
“As immigrants, my partner and I found Our Place in America by cooking and sharing food with new friends who became our chosen family. That’s why we started Our Place: to build a bigger table, one that would have room for all of us. In an industry that made everyone feel inadequate, we took a new approach and created products that celebrated the beauty and joy of home cooking (and actually made it easier to cook). Our work here is rooted in authenticity and representation — celebrating all our traditions from Nowruz to Nochebuena, Ramadan to Shabbat. It is my greatest privilege to work on building connections every day alongside our inspiring team and our beautiful community.” – Shiza Shadid, Co-Founder of Our Place
Sustainability at the Heart
One of the standout features of Our Place is its unwavering commitment to sustainability. This commitment permeates every aspect of the company, from product design and sourcing to packaging and shipping. Here are some key sustainability initiatives that define Our Place:
Ethical Sourcing: Our Place places a strong emphasis on sourcing materials responsibly. They use ethical and eco-friendly materials such as stainless steel and cast iron that are built to last, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
Longevity: Our Place designs its products to be durable, with a focus on longevity. This minimizes the environmental impact by reducing waste and the need for continuous production.
Thoughtful Packaging: All of their product packaging is free from traditional plastics, and innovatively designed to eliminate the need for a shipping box. The box is fully recyclable and biodegradable.
Local Manufacturing: Whenever possible, Our Place manufactures its products close to their point of sale to reduce carbon emissions associated with long-distance shipping.
Cookware for Community
Our Place’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its innovative and versatile products, designed to simplify cooking and reduce the clutter in your kitchen.
You’ve probably seen their viral Always Pan somewhere on social media – and for good reason. Referred to as the “do-it-all” pan, the Always Pan is a versatile kitchen essential designed to replace multiple traditional cookware pieces.
It’s made with non-toxic ceramic nonstick and 100% post-consumer recycled aluminum. Plus, it comes with a modular lid that doubles as a steamer, strainer, and serving spoon rest.
By using nontoxic ceramic, it ensures that your cookware contains no PFAS, PTFEs, PFOAs, lead, or cadmium.
No kitchen is complete without tableware and kitchen tools. Using sustainable materials like premium ceramic, recycled glass, linen, recycled plastic, and beechwood, they’ve got your entire kitchen experience covered.
To date, the Our Place team has designed products that have earned over 111 patents. But the goal remains the same: multifunctional, simple, stunning items that serve a purpose in your home.
Community and Impact
Our Place is not just about selling products. It’s about creating a community of conscious consumers who value sustainability and ethical practices.
The company partners with various organizations and initiatives that align with their mission, including food justice programs and community-driven projects.
For each of their collections, they find partners who are working to create systems-based change in their communities.
Recently, they teamed up with Feeding America to donate over 200,000 meals to fight hunger during COVID-19.
In their collection with Selema Gomez, they donated 10% of profits to the Rare Impact Fund – a nonprofit raising awareness and increasing access to mental health services for young people.
Impact isn’t one thing, it’s everything. From their product materials to manufacturing to charitable giveback, Our Place is on a mission to make cookware kinder.
Our Place & Karma Wallet
Our Place is a shining example of a company that proves you can create innovative, stylish, and functional products while also prioritizing sustainability and ethical values.
Their commitment to responsible sourcing, thoughtful design, and community engagement sets them apart in the world of kitchenware.
We knew that there was a lot of overlap between the Karma Wallet community and Our Place.
Which is why we’re stoked to announce that Our Place is now a member of the Karma Collective – a community of ethical brands that offer our community exclusive cashback rewards.
They’ll be more details to come with the launch of the Karma Wallet Card in January 2024. But what we can say is that Our Place will be bringing you some amazing deals to thank you for being a conscious consumer.
