Plaine Products Brand Story

Founded by two sisters, Lindsey and Alison Delaplaine, Plaine Products began with a dream to have less plastic waste in our world.

Every year, we produce 300 million tons of plastic waste. 78% of that is not reclaimed or recycled. Instead it ends up in landfills, oceans, and waterways where it contributes to global warming and other massive environmental issues. 

CEO and co-founder Lindsey spent 10 years living and working in the Bahamas. There she saw the consequences of our plastic pollution problem. There was plastic on the beach, plastic in the ocean, plastic in the streets – you name it. 

With a bold idea to tackle plastic pollution in the bathroom, in 2015 she teamed up with co-founder and sister Alison to develop plastic free, toxin free essentials.

The Plaine Products Model

At the heart of Plaine Products’ sustainability efforts lies their innovative packaging and refill system. Here’s how it works:

Step 1 – Order Refillable Bottles: Explore shampoos, conditioners, body washes, lotions and other personal care products packaged in plastic-free, aluminum bottles. Unlike conventional single-use plastic containers, their packaging is designed to be refilled, not thrown away. If it’s your first time shopping with Plaine Products, you can get a plastic pump included with your order. If you’re a return customer, you can opt for no pump and reuse your plastic pump! 

Unlike plastic, aluminum is able to be completely recycled (several times!) without any loss in quality. Plus, it takes a lot less energy and money to recycle aluminum compared to plastic. On the other hand, plastic can only be recycled once or twice – and it is downgraded in quality every time. 

Step 2 – Convenient Refill Service: When your Plaine Products bottle is empty, simply order a refill from their website. Additionally, Plaine Products offers a subscription model for added convenience, ensuring you never run out of your favorite products.

Step 3 – Return and Repeat: Once you receive your refill, send the empty bottle back to Plaine Products using the prepaid shipping label. Then they sanitize and reuse these bottles, diverting waste from landfills and reducing the need for new resources.

Clean Ingredients for a Clean Environment

Sustainability isn’t just about the packaging; it’s also about what’s inside the bottles.

Plaine Products takes this seriously by offering vegan, non-GMO, natural, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free formulations.

Their products are free from harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates, and artificial fragrances, making them safe for both you and the environment.

Plus, they run all of their ingredients through the Environmental Working Group’s database to ensure they are safe and non-toxic.

A key ingredient in their products is aloe. This hydrating addition contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E plus 8 essential amino acids. It cleanses and soothes hair and skin without stripping it of essential nutrients. 

Eco-Friendly Product Packaging

Not only are the products packaged sustainably… so is the shipping packaging. They send your order to you in 100% recycled materials, and work with a local packaging group close to their headquarters to reduce their supply shipping footprint.

The boxes are designed in a way to reduce the need for additional fill. Plus, they’re so durable that they can be used on average 5 times before being recycled. They even go so far as using reinforced paper tape to seal the boxes instead of plastic tape.
