Introduction

The beauty industry creates 120 billion units of packaging waste every year–and much of it ends up in landfills or our waterways. Born from a desire to revolutionize the cosmetics industry, Axiology offers more than just makeup; it offers a lifestyle rooted in sustainability, ethics, and compassion.

Here’s how it started, where it’s going, and how you can implement it in your sustainability journey!

Origins of Axiology: From Etsy to Global Recognition

At the heart of Axiology is founder Ericka Rodriguez, whose journey began with a profound realization in 2013. Disheartened by the discovery that her beloved makeup products were tested on animals, Ericka embarked on a mission to create a cruelty-free alternative.

Ericka’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. Experimenting in her modest kitchen and navigating the complexities of cosmetic formulation, she poured her heart and soul into perfecting her creations.

After two years of dedication and countless trials (much to the dismay of her roommate), Axiology was born. With six shades of the first 10-ingredient lipstick, Axiology made its debut on Etsy, captivating consumers with its smooth texture and ethical ethos.

What started as a humble Etsy venture soon blossomed into a global phenomenon.

Axiology’s commitment to vegan, cruelty-free, and clean beauty resonated with consumers worldwide, propelling the brand onto the shelves of renowned retailers like Credo. Despite its rapid growth, Axiology remained steadfast in its values, ensuring that every product upheld the highest ethical standards.

A Plastic-Free Future

Determined to address the excess plastic packaging in the beauty industry, Axiology made a bold decision to eliminate all plastic from its packaging in 2022. While the brand’s lipsticks were already ethically sourced and packaged in tubes made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic, Ericka recognized the need for a more sustainable approach.

In 2022, Axiology unveiled its fully plastic-free packaging, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability journey.

Today, all Axiology boxes are made from island trash and 100% recyclable. To make this possible, they partner with a women’s cooperative that turns Bali’s paper trash into beauty packaging while providing stable work and fair wages to women in Bali.

Innovative Products

Axiology’s beauty products are vegan, cruelty-free, handmade in the USA, and plastic-free – while the business is BIPOC-owned and woman-run.

Many of their products have multiple functions to reduce space in your makeup bag, like their Lip-to-Lid Balmies or their Color Cream Multi-Sticks.

Plus, Axiology routinely donates to animal welfare organizations such as local humane societies and animal sanctuaries!
